Blog/Lesson Eleven Who Is Jesus? Part Four
Many Bible scholars have a hard time explaining the prayer Jesus prayed before He went to the whipping post and hang on the cross; in the garden called Gethsemane. Of course Jesus was willing to die for the sins of all mankind, and he knew that was the purpose for His coming.
Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Joh 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
As we have seen in Scripture in previous lessons; Jesus was a three part being: His 1) Spirit was God’s Word that spoke everything into existence. And His 2) Soul; mind, will and emotions were totally human housed in a 3) human body. Jesus was dying to the fleshly man, (praying as the Son of man) or his humanity (soul, mind). From a child, He had seen these cruel punishments unto death.
Mat 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will,(His humanity) but as thou wilt. (His Spirit Deity and the Father in Heaven were ONE. Parenthesis, and notations are mine).
Mat 26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Mathew 26:38-41)
As He told his disciples, the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Isn’t that the way we are? Isn’t it hard to do those things that we know we should do? For me there are three things: I want an hour saved daily to spend with God in the secret place of Prayer, I would like to be on time instead of 10 minutes late for work, and I want to juice vegetables daily. Paul was honest with those he taught; saying that he had trouble doing the things he should, yet his spirit wanted to do good:
Rom 7:14 For we know that the law (Law of the Spirit and Life) is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin (under the Law of Sin and Death by Adam). (Notations in parenthesis are mine)
Rom 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Jesus was tempted and had free will in His fleshly soul; but refused to sin. He was that sinless lamb for the sacrifice for all of our sins:
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
I think His greatest stress was the thought that He would have to push God Deity out away from himself in order to take on His shoulders the sins of all people from past to future, and hang on the cross as man alone. Deity cannot sin, and Deity cannot die, so he had to push Deity away before He could take on the sins of the World. The Father; Deity in Heaven did not turn his face from Jesus and forsake him on the cross. When Jesus said, “Father why has thou forsaken me,” in the original Greek words, you can see that He actually said, “My Deity (Father), my Deity for this intent (Why), leave (forsake) me!”
Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Eli= Greek # 2241 My God--Elias from Greek# 3450 simpler form of 1700; of me:--I, me, mine,(own), my.
God = Greek #2316 Deity, espec. (with 3588) the supreme Divinity: a Magistrate; very exceedingly God,
Lama= Greek#2982 Why= Greek#2444 from # 2443= in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):-- albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that. (for) to.
#2444 ; for what reason Why/: --Wherefore, why.
Sabachthani = Greek#4518 Forsake ; thou hast left me; a cry of distress:/ forsaken Greek # 1459 to leave behind in some place, (in a good sense) let remain over, or (in a bad one) to desert:-forsake, leave.
Me= Greek# 3165 = me;--I, me, my.
According to the Greek word usage which line up with what Jesus said and taught, He said “My Deity, My Deity, for this intent (reason) Leave Me!” Then Jesus said:
Luk 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
(God didn’t have His face turned away from Jesus; this verse shows that there was love and total trust here when Jesus gave His Spirit to join God the Father, Deity in Heaven.)
In the next lesson, we will see just what history and the culture of that time says about the most crucial and painful death; the crucifixion that Jesus bore willingly for you and me. Jesus did not die (give His body) as a sacrifice to God, but gave it to the wrath of the Law of Sin and Death that Lucifer created when he transgressed (sinned) against God. God’s Word and covenant is ever lasting and cannot change. God’s first covenant law was Free Will and Sowing and Reaping; that God intended on always operating in Love and was called the Law of the Spirit and Life.
Lucifer tempted Adam and Eve with his “fruit of lies.” God had told them, if they ate of Lucifer’s lies they would die. Lucifer convinced them by lies in their head, that God wasn’t telling them the truth. They believed Lucifer over God; “We won’t surely die.” Their sin put not only themselves, but all mankind and the whole earth under the curse of the Law of Sin and Death. Jesus came to win back mankind from this curse. And All who receive Him as Lord and Savior are kept and protected under the Law of the Spirit of Life and will not have to reap wrath/eternal separation from God for our sins.
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
