What Was Calvary All About? Part Two Blog/Lesson Twenty
The Basics of Christianity continued:
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the one and single event that proves He was and is the one True Messiah who was sent from the creator God, Jehovah.
"Dr. Simon Greenleaf was highly skilled at dealing with evidence. He was the famous Royal Professor of Law at Harvard University and he succeeded Justice Joseph Story as the Dane Professor of Law in the same university. The rise of Harvard Law in its eminent position among the legal schools of the United States is to be ascribed to the efforts of these two men.
Green leaf produced his famous three-volume work, A Treatise on the Law of Evidence, which still is considered one of the greatest single authorities on this subject in the entire literature of Legal procedure.
Greenleaf examined the value of the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ to ascertain the truth. He applied the principles contained in his three-volume treatise on evidence. His findings were recorded in his book, An Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists by the Rules of Evidence Administered in the Courts of Justice.
Greenleaf concluded that, " there is more evidence for the historical fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ than for just about any other event in history." Note#1 (Josh McDowell, A Ready Defense, 2nd Edition. Nashville, Tennessee Thomas Nelson, Inc. 1993, p. 217.)
Over five hundred eye witnesses saw Jesus after He arose from the dead.
1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
I believe a few very important facts have been missing in most of the Easter messages that I have heard: 1) Love can’t forsake. God the Father (Deity in Heaven) did not turn his face away from Jesus and forsake Him.
2) Jesus did not die to the wrath of God. His body wasn’t sacrificed to God. Nor was he judged by God. He died as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind to the wrath of the Law of Sin and Death, which required a death sacrifice for sin. Jesus laid down his own life. (In The Garden, Jesus was dying to his flesh when He said "Let this cup pass from me, " Of course His Spirit was willing. This is why He came. He had already told his disciples,’No one will take my life I will lay it down (His humanity) and I will pick it up (His Deity), Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead.
Joh 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
Joh 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Even though, several Bible versions interpret that Jesus said," My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me." Every original Greek word had several word meanings, and I believe it is evident that sometimes the interpreters used the worng words , which made a confused statement. This is why it is good to have a condordance to get to all the words that one word has been used.
Using the original Greek word meanings, I’d like to show you what Jesus was really saying, right before he died. But first, the King James Version:
Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Jesus had to push Deity away from himself before He could take on the sins of the world, or die, because Deity can not sin or die.
According to the Greek word meanings which line up with what Jesus said and taught, He said "My Deity, My Deity, for this intent (reason) Leave Me!"
Strong’s Concordance Greek word meanings:
1. Eli= Greek # 2241 My God--Elias from Greek# 3450 simpler form of 1700; of me:--I, me, mine,(own), my.
2. God = Greek #2316 Deity, espec. (with 3588) the supreme Divinity: a Magistrate; very exceedingly God,
3. Lama= Greek#2982 Why= Greek#2444 from # 2443= in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):-- albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that. (for) to.
#2444 ; for what reason Why/: --Wherefore, why.
4. Sabachthani = Greek#4518 Forsake ; thou hast left me; a cry of distress:/ forsaken Greek # 1459 to leave behind in some place, (in a good sense) let remain over, or (in a bad one) to desert:-forsake, leave.
5. Me= Greek# 3165 = me;--I, me, my.
God is Love, and Love doesn’t forsake:
The Word Charity in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 means LOVE.
1Co 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1Co 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1Co 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1Jn 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
God doesn’t forsake, Old Testament:
Deu 4:30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;
Deu 4:31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
God’s promise to Joshua:
Jos 1:5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
New Testament: God will never leave us nor forsake us:
Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
In a very distressed call of pain and agony, Jesus gave his Spirit up into the hands of God the Father. His spirit and the Father was one Spirit. Of course He knew and felt the Father Deity’s Love, it was in him. It was this same Love that laid down his life for you and me; to make possible for all mankind to be joined back to God.
God did NOT forsake Jesus! The moment Jesus pushed Deity away He gave his spirit to His loving Father Deity God.
Luk 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. (expired; died )
As recorded in Matthew:
Mat 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
Mat 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
Strong’s Concordance: Ghost = Greek # 1606 From #4154; to expire;--give up the ghost.
At Calvary the veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple was no longer needed. After Calvary no more do we have to have a high priest to pray our prayers to God for us. Jesus said pray:
"My Father which art in Heaven," which is the God in Jesus Christ. Whosoever means all people can come to God through Jesus our high priest. If our prayers are based on the Truth of God’s Word and not half fable, Jesus can repeat them and instruct and command his angels to operate in our behalf. We don’t pray to angels. But the angels do harken to or obey the voice and commands of Jesus

Psa 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
The voice of His Word starts with our Prayers of faith; backed with the Truth of God’s Word.
The Physicians, who have studied what really happens to the body when it is crucified, say:
"Death by Crusifiction is the ultimate of all pain."
I believe, Jesus knew that hanging on that cross without his Deity; ( as man alone to take on all the sins of the world,) would be even more excruciating than the pain. Satan’s demons were about to come and take his soul to Hell to preach to all help captive, and bring up souls with him at His Ressurection. But He was willing; he laid down his life for all of us. He knew this was the only way to win victory and power over Satan, which was the reason he came.
Jesus owned his own body and willing gave it for us. As the Son of man (His humanity and free will) Jesus said, "I lay down my life." As the Son of God (His Spirit or Deity), He told his disciples. "I have the power, given by the Father (Deity), to take it up again."
Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Joh 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Joh 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
Joh 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
So now you see , God the Father Deity did NOT forsake (turn his eyes away from ) Jesus while He was on the cross. God did not kill Jesus and Jesus didn’t die to the wrath of God. Many atheist have made the statement, I can’t believe in a God who would make a body to kill to satisfy His own anger. Well , that wasn’t the case at all.
